サンクスギビンのせいかつ
サンクスギビンの休暇(きゅうか)はいそがしかったです。お母さんのクラスメイトは王さんで、やさしいです。でも、王さんのうちにいきませんでした。りょうでいました。大学院生の論文(ろんぶん)は難しくて、大変ですね。毎日5時間くらい論文を書きました。でも、始めるのがありますよ。
それから、サンクスギビンに料理をつくって、バスケットボールをしました。スーパーにバスでにくを買いにいきました。どうな料理ですか?ちゅうごくのピッザで、おいしかったです。昼ごはんをたべて、バスケットボールをしにいきました。バスケットボールをするのが一番好きなスポーツですよ。
サンクスギビンはアメリカの重要(じゅうよう)休暇です。でも、りょうの辺はサンクスギビンがありませんでした。みなはうちにかえるので、この辺はにぎやかじゃありませんでした。その現象(げんしょう)は大きいまちで、普遍(ふへん)の現象です。休みの日に、大連もプリンストンもにぎやかじゃありません。

わたしのあきやすみ
せんしゅうはあきやすみ。わたしはちゅうごくにかえりました。にちようびにうちへかえりました。まいあさ、わたしは6じはんごろおきました。そして、くるまでわたしの愛人いっしょにぎんこうへいきました。ぎんこうはわたしの愛人のかいしゃですよ。かいしゃのなまえはちゅうごくぎんこうです。とてもいいかいしゃですね。
きんようびからすいようびまでスーパーでショピングをしました。わたしはよくスーパーにいきます。スーパーになにがありますか?りんごがあいます。わたしはりんごをあまりたべません。
そして、もくようびにおじさんのうちでばんごはんをたべました。おじさんのりょうりはとてもおいしでした。そして、ちゃをのみました。
こんしゅうのにちようびのばん、わたしはプリンストンへかえりました。あきやしみはとてもよかったですよ。

Post mid-term reflections on current Japanese learning
After briefly reviewing my test paper, I felt that I deserved the mark I was given. Though most of the mistakes might have been corrected if I have enough time for proof-reading, my overall lack of proficiency in writing Japanese Hiragana and Katakana words forced me to spend more time on spelling.
For the next stage, I wish I could be more reflexive on writing Japanese vocabularies.
To achieve this goal, I need to memorize vocabularies in chapter lists and review them regularly.
For listening/oral exercises in particular, I think I need to be more fluent. For the mistakes I made in the oral exam, I feel that when listening to a (unprepared) question face to face, I sometimes cannot catch the particles in the sentence, which makes it very difficult to understand the question. I have also made some incorrect word/sentence pitch choices, but I think they are more remediable than the previous issue.
My new pronunciation exercise goals:
1. improve my understanding of sentences, esp particles that mark details such as time, place, or action.
2. improve my pronunciation in terms of word/sentence pitches and rhythms.
To achieve these two goals, I think I have to continue to listen to Japanese materials, not those for fun perhaps, but course-related listening materials such as the textbook and the speak everywhere programs.

せんしゅうのしゅまつ
きょうはげつようびです、わたしのせんこう(ちゅうごくれきし)のせんせいはプリンストンにかえりました。にほんのとうきょうにいきました。きゅうのごごさんじはんにじゅぎょうがありました。ちゅうごくれきしのしゅくだいはたいへんですね。よくすいゆうびともくようびにしゅくだいをします。でも、せんしゅうのまいあさろくじごろおきました。そして、まいにちべんきょうしました。テレビをみませんでした。
らいしゅうはあきやしみです、とてもいいですね。わたしはきんようびにうちでかえります。うちはどこですか?ちゅうごくのだいれんですよ。じゃ、また。

My Goals 10/12
I knew I did not post on my temporary goals in Japan learning. Well, after talking to Shibata Sensei last week, I came up with the following goals as well as methods to achieve them.
1. Speaking accuracy and fluency. I would like to practice on how to speak Japanese more naturally and fluently. For example, I want to make all special sounds like the u in desu sound right.
For personal reasons, I cannot attend the Japanese table event on Tuesday. So I am going to practice speaking by using the Speak Everywhere courses.
2. Listening. I had a hard time trying to shadow an anime clip. I cannot follow a long sentence even if I have memorized the scripts (and chose the easiest anime). I also share a Chinese Japanese learners difficulty in distinguishing da/ta, ka/ga sounds in between words.
In order to address these two problems, as suggested by Shibata Sensei, I have to do more listening exercises such as the SE. I should also try to come to the office hours of our three lecturers at least twice a week.

Hi, everyone!
To me, Japanese learning has always been on the list.
When I was a high school student in Dalian, China, a city that was colonized by the Japanese from roughly 1905 to 1945, half of my classmates chose Japanese as their first foreign language. Mine was English but for communication, I tried to amuse them by talking about Japanese-origined English words. After graduation, I even tried to teach English to some of these Japanese-majored classmates, and they taught me some Japanese for exchange.
When I was a undergraduate, I started to think about learning Japanese seriously. Thus I tried to remember all hiraganas and katakanas. But that ethusiasium quickly faded facing the difficulty of this foreign alphabet. But as a modern Chinese history student, I kind of have to read Japanese articles and books. So though I have not mastered the grammar, I tried to read the Chinese characters between the lines and guess what the authors were talking about, with the help of a dictionary.
Finally, the day has come when I really have to learn Japanese. This time funded by Princeton Universty, where I am enrolled as a PhD. student in East Asian Studies. Indeed, it is definately to learn a language by doing it than thinking about doing it.
